Hi, I’m T and it is an honor to have you! Shy Social Worker was created to help support my fellow social workers with this amazing (and challenging) field we chose to pursue. I am a shy, introverted twenty-something social work newbie attempting to navigate the elusive work/life balance. Stick around and let’s experience this journey together!
Why you should stick around!
- Professional tips and tricks from a fellow shy social worker who gets it.
- Pro and con lists on topics ranging from having a home-based position to utilizing mindfulness with clients.
- Creative and easily implemented therapeutic session ideas.
- View honesty as an empowerment tool.
- Budding social workers: advice on undergrad, grad school, and internships.
- Humor, I think I am hilarious (consider this your warning). At the very least my hope is for you to gain some amusement because our field is so serious the majority of the time!
More Details
I have a Master’s in Clinical Social Work. I learned a lot through my internships in the foster care system and residential treatment. Most notably, I realized my passion is helping people who have survived traumatic experiences. Post-graduation life has had its ups and downs, but I am proud to call myself a Master’s level Licensed Social Worker focused on providing trauma-informed care. My “official” field work began in a correctional facility where my role included individual and group counseling, as well as leading psycho-education lectures for men as they prepared to re-enter the community. Currently, I work for a non-profit and provide in-home counseling services to children in foster care in an urban community. It was a big transition, to say the least! Now I am doing my best to learn and grow as both a clinician and a human.
Fun facts:
- I am a huge Disney fan! I even went to Disney World the day after graduation and had all the characters sign my cap!
- My
bffiancé and I adopted a black cat and he brings so much joy to our lives. - Sushi and Drunken Noodle (Thai dish) are tied for first place as my favorite food.
- The majority of my electives in high school were related to Graphic Design and I almost chose it as my major in college.
- I was a resident assistant (RA) in undergrad and I believe it shaped me into the social worker I am today
. My dream vacations include Australia, Singapore, Dubai, and South Africa. I have no clue when/if I will travel to these places but why not put it out to the universe, right?
